## What is the Advanced Numerical Reasoning Appraisal (ANRA)?

The ANRA test, short for Advanced Numerical Reasoning Appraisal, measures higher-level numerical reasoning skills rather than just checking on basic mathematical capabilities. The test assesses your numerical skills relevant to problem-solving and decision making. The test is published and owned by TalentLens Pearson

The ANRA is not your typical computational math test but instead assesses an individual’s capacity for deduction, interpretation, and evaluation. ANRA is often coupled with the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal, but it can also be used as a stand-alone test when numerical reasoning alone needs to be measured.

ANRA is split into two sections. The first is called Comparison of Quantities and consists of comparative data based on which you need to select the appropriate answer. The second section is called Sufficiency of Information in which each question has two statements giving specific information with five possible answer combinations. It is up to you to select the right combination. You can find more details about each subtest below. For both categories, you are expected to have a mathematical knowledge level up to GCSE level. Furthermore, knowledge of basic mathematical concepts such as calculation of percentages, ratios, exponents, and operations such as speed, time and distance, are required.

Assessment-Training.com offers a tailor-made package of tests especially made to mimic the ANRA test. Start your training now to make sure that you’re fully prepared for your ANRA!

The ANRA Preparation Package consists of:

• ANRA - Comparison of quantities
• ANRA – Sufficiency of Information
• Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test

All of our practice tests come with extensive explanations and a description of how the questions can be solved. Furthermore, our Personal Progression System will help you track your progress and give a detailed view of your performances. This system will help you identify your stronger and weaker points and provides insight into your areas of development. The progression tool keeps track of your scores, test times and overall progress.

## ANRA - Comparison of Quantities

In this part of the ANRA test you are required to make a comparison between two quantities, being A and B. For each question, you will find four answer possibilities, being:

A: If the quantity under A is greater than the quantity under B.
B: If the quantity under B is greater than the quantity under A.
C: If the quantities under A and B are equal.
D: If insufficient information is given to make the comparison.

Example Comparison of Quantities question, click here or on the picture for a free test.

Explanation:

In quantity A 32 bedsheets are red and 91 are other colors, so the cost is:
Cost = (32 x 11) + (91 x 13)
Cost = 1535 USD
In quantity B 90 bedsheets are red and 70 are other colors, so the cost is:
Cost = (90 x 11) + (70 x 13)
Cost = 1900 USD
So quantity B is greater than A
Therefore the correct answer is option B.

## ANRA - Sufficiency of Information

In this section, you will be presented with a question and two statements, labeled statement 1 and statement 2, which both give certain information. You are asked whether the information in the given statements is sufficient to answer the question, either separately or in combination.

Based on the information given in the statements plus your knowledge of mathematics you are asked to select one of the following options to answer the question:

A: If statement 1 alone is sufficient, but statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

B: If statement 2 alone is sufficient, but statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

C: If both statements 1 and 2 together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient.

D: If each statement alone is sufficient to answer the question asked.

E: If statements 1 and 2 together are not sufficient to answer the question asked.

Example Sufficiency of Information question, click here or on the picture for a free test.

Explanation:

Statement (1) tells us that there are more females than males.
Statement (2) tells us that there are 250 females in town B.
Statement (1) and (2) are not sufficient to answer the question.

So the correct option is E

## Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Tests

A Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test is composed of a set of five tests. Each test is designed to address a different aspect of critical thinking:

1. Inferences
2. Recognition of Assumptions
3. Deductions
4. Interpretations
5. Evaluation of Arguments

The Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test also referred to as Critical Reasoning Test, is a commonly used aptitude tests that come up during a job application. Critical Thinking Tests are a widely used aptitude test for selecting candidates for graduate, professional and managerial level. The test measures:

• Critical thinking ability

• General understanding of the importance of evidence when making conclusions

• The ability to differentiate between inferences, abstractions, and generalizations through applying logic

• The ability to combine these skills above when making these decisions

Critical thinking plays a vital role in academic instruction and occupations that require careful analytics thinking to perform essential job functions. It is used in different fields, such as business, government, and education. Critical thinking tests predict judgment, problem-solving, creativity, openness to experience and more.

Example of a Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test Question.

In the example above the right answer is (B) “Probably True” because the statement indicates that the idea contributes only a single role in reducing safety risks. Although it could not be considered that the plan would definitely reduce the security risks, as other irrelevant hazards may cause damage.

## Tips and Tricks to ace your ANRA

Employers use aptitude tests such as ANRA to find the best person for the job by finding the right applicant. They are looking for a fit between the candidate, job profile and company culture. Employers look at it from a skill, intelligence, personality and cultural perspective. The results of your aptitude test will provide the employer with a profile of you with regard to your intelligence and personality.

Doing some research about the test that you’re expecting is the most important step in preparation for any aptitude test. If you know what to expect you will increase your chances of performing well due to the fact that you’re familiar with the formats. Also, by practicing aptitude tests you will reveal your own strengths and weaknesses that you can work on in preparation for the actual assessment.

These effective test-taking strategy tips and tricks are well worth remembering before you take the actual ANRA:

• Practice, practice and practice some more to familiarize yourself with the content areas of the ANRA test. This will give you more confidence during the actual test due to the fact that you are familiar with test formats and practicing under time-pressure. Assessment-Training.com offers you a realistic test simulation online.
• Read the question and instructions properly to make sure you understand the type of answer required for each section in the ANRA. Even though this seems logical, often candidates miss out very important information. Multiple-choice tests use so-called ‘distractors’ as answer possibilities. These distractors are answers options which are deliberately similar to the right answer; in other words, the answer possibilities are designed to test if you read the question and provided information property.
• Do not linger over problems that take too much time. Try to solve as many as you can; then return to the others in the time you have left for the test.

## Why practice?

Practice makes perfect! You will see that through practice your performance will improve. Familiarizing yourself with psychometric tests is the first step to success. Through practice, you will get a clear picture of what these tests are, what they look like, what they measure, and what the testing conditions will be.
